Jim's son has typed up 11 pages of reminiscences of his father's life growing up in 1930's Deddington. They can be found here as a pdf of the original document and forms one of the best records we have of life in the Parish prior to WWII. Because it contains a wealth of names, shops and trades and intersting events from the times the original doc has also been transcribed into a word searchable document to be found HERE.

In his reminiscenses Jim recounts that his father and grandfather were sweeps. His Great Grandfather was also a sweep having been employed as a child to climb up inside chimneys. He is the subject of an article 'The Little Chimney Sweep of Deddington' written by Julie Ann Godson in her book On this day in Oxfordshire (available via Amazon). She has very kindly made an expanded version available for this website
