THE LAST WILL AND TESTAMENT OF ZACHARY STILGOE OF DEDDINGTON 1669
 

In the name of God Amen  this seventh day of August in the one and twentieth year of his Majesties reign Anno Domini 1669  I Zachary Stilgoe of Deddington in the county of Oxon Yeoman being week in body but of good and perfect memory praised be to God for it I call my to remembrance the uncertain state of this transitory life and that all flesh must yield unto death when it shall please God to call do make constitute ordain and declare this my last will and testament in manner and form following revoking and annulling by these presents all and every Testament and Testaments Will and Wills heretofore by me made and declared either by word or by writing and this to be taken only for my last will and testament and none other

And first being penitent and sorry from the bottom of my heart for my sins past most humbly desiring forgiveness for the same I give and commit my soul unto Almighty God my Saviour and Redeemer in whom and by the merits of Jesus Christ I trust and believe assuredly to be saved and to have full remission and forgiveness for all my sins and that my soul with my body at the general day of Resurrection shall arise again with joy and through the merits of Christs death possess and inherit the Kingdom of Heaven prepared for his elect and chosen and my body to be buried  at the discretion of my Executors hereafter mentioned 

And now for the settling of my Temporal estate and such goods chattels debts as it hath pleased God to bestow of me I do order give and dispose the same in manner and form following (That is to say)

Imprimis I give and bequeath unto my son James Stilgoe all that my house and land and all Appurtenances whatsoever belonging to the same which I formerly bought and purchased of my cousin Thomas Rymell with all deeds and writings concerning the same to be to him my said son James Stilgoe and to his heirs for ever

Item I also give more unto my said son James forty pounds of good and lawful English money  to be paid unto  him within a year and a half next after my decease

Item I give and bequeath unto my daughter Joane Shepherd and to all her children twelve pence apiece of good and lawful English money

Item I give and bequeath unto Anne Turner and Elizabeth Turner  daughters of Edward Turner twelve pence apiece of like money

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Hugh Stilgoe all that house and land and the appurtenances whatsoever that I bought and purchased of my cousin George Waterman and also that house and the appurtenances thereunto belonging which I bought and purchased of my cousins Edward Aris Nicholas Aris Anne Aris and Rebecca Aris with all deeds and writings confirming the same upon this condition and it is my desire that noe woman may not have any joyncture in it, or that there may not be any way mortgages to any but to wholly remain to him the said Hugh Stilgoe and to the heirs male of the Stilgoes for ever

Item I give and bequeath unto my son Hugh Stilgoes children twenty shillings apiece of lawful English money (to each of them crossed through)

Item I give and bequeath unto my son James Stilgoes children twenty shillings apiece of like money to each of them  all the rest of my goods and chattels not formerly disposed of  I give and bequeath more  unto my son Hugh Stilgo whom I make sole Executor of this my last will and testament he paying my debts and legacies and funeral expenses

I appoint my loving friends Mr John Apletree and Tymothy Smith overseers of this my last will to whom I give sixpence apiece

In witness whereof I the said Zachary Stilgoe have hereunto set my  hand and seal the day and year first above written
