The Cartwright papers, which are held in the Northamptonshire Records Office, contain a document entitled "The suite of all the names of the inhabitants of dadington 7 Ocabre 1623."
The list contains around 210 names all of which are men and, I suggest, are men over the age of 21 years.
A Hugh Stilgoe is listed, his occupation is given as "agricola" which is roughly translated as Yeoman or Husbandman. The next entry is for Zacharie Stilgoe, "Filius" i.e. son. The fact that he is mentioned implies that he is over 21 years of age.
A Hugh Stilgoe appears in the Deddington Parish Register amongst the burials for 1631. The suggestion is that Zacharie, the son of Hugh, is the Stilgoe who is at the head of our main Stilgoe tree.
