There was a rifle range in 1911 because the Scouts were using it.

In 1914 the Rifle Club won the Astor Cup. Fred Sanders is the only person identified as 8th from right centre row.
Many of the men in the photograph who learnt to shoot on the range went off to fight in WWI and died there. Fred Sanders served in The Ox & Bucks and survived. He died in 1932
The range was situated in the castle grounds behind the banks on the ......and was to include an indoor range in due course.
In 1981, when the shed and facilities were very dilapidated, the club moved to a new site known as the Anson Range on Churchill Road in Kidlingotn. More details of its history and activities since 1945 can be found on the club's website: Deddington & District Rifle Club although it incorrectly attributes the club's start to 1945!
