Millennium Project
The Parish Archive
The function of the archive is to
collect and preserve paper-based documents reflecting the life and
times of our parish and its heritage. Access to the archive is available
on application, and also more widely through the website and has proved
extremely popular with those who have moved away from the villages or
for others researching ancestors, etc.
Digital copies of the many
photographs held in the archive and on the website are saved on an
associated website called The Gallery [
https://gallery.deddingtonhistory.uk ].
The History Website
The History website (www.deddingtonhistory.uk) is part of Deddington Parish Archive - an organisation run by a small group of unpaid volunteer residents and reliant on charity for funding. (see Constitution at foot of this article). It was originally created as part of a Millenium Project ‘Discovering Deddington’ to record the parish in the year 2000. It now consists of over 2000 pages of history from Saxon to modern times and contains digital images of approximately one-third of the archived documents stored in a dehumidified and fire-proof room in The Windmill Community Centre.
